Billy Bob Thornton must have pacted with the devil in 2001, the year of “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” “Bandits” and “Monster’s Ball.” Their contract has long since lapsed. Thornton’s subsequent films have been spotty, more bad than good, with only “Bad Santa” showing him at his best.
